Breakout performance for Smith in 114-59 Magi win over Fresno

Freshman cornerback Matt Smith made his presence felt in the defense for Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi, making three tackles and a team-record seven interceptions as the Magi raced past the Fresno State Bulldogs, 114-59 at Bulldog Stadium in Fresno, California.
"Matt's coming of age, and we wanted to turn him loose today," Kaname said after the game. "I think he has a bright future as a corner on this team. He was on fire.
"I really like the second string of this team and the young guns stepping up to the plate. This match shows a lot about our depth."
Quarterback John Townes passed for 221 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 177 yards and two scores. Fullback Sean Chevrier rushed for 95 yards and three majors, while quarterback Leonard Gordon rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns.
Wide receiver Jeremy Bell led the Mitakihara receiving corps with three catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns.
