Days after the Mitakihara Magi had won their 18th national championship, right guard Doug Weber declared for the 2029 NFL Draft. "I appreciate you understanding that this is an opportunity I can't pass up," Weber told members of the local media at a press conference, surrounded by assistant coach Daru Hashida and head coach Tatsuya Kaname.

"It's not very often that a player from our university declares early for the NFL Draft, but Doug is expected to graduate on time and finish his degree before he start his pro career," Hashida said at the press conference. "As an option, we have an accelerated program for players who want to finish their degree but want to leave school early for drafts such as the NFL Draft."

"Doug will always remain a part of the Mitakihara Family and we thank him for his contributions to the team and our defense of our BCS National Championship crown," Kaname added at the press conference. "He is a hard worker and one of the best linemen we have had on this team and we wish him all the best."

The absence means that the team will only be two-deep at right guard, but thanks to a strong recruiting class, the depth will remain constant next season. Senior Steve Taylor is expected to line up behind next season's expected starter, sophomore Royston Kujichagulias.
