Ryan Sampson was a quarterback that just wanted to get a break for once and have a love life with somebody. When he was a freshman, his first girlfriend, a playgirl from Surrey, died of a drug overdose after a night out on the town. The event took a profound impact on his state of mind. Even though he was able to cast it aside last year, the memory of Sheila Lockett was too much to overcome at times.
After practice, two days before the flight to Hawaii, a young woman approached her. "Who are you?" he asked.
"The name's Sanae. Sanae Dekomori. Care to come to my house for a visit?" Sanae was a member of Mitakihara University's Board of Trustees and was its youngest member at 24.
"Sure...I guess I have some free time before I have to go back to my dorm."

Sanae's residence was a townhouse apartment in the western part of Mitakihara Town, one of the more quieter neighborhoods. Ryan had some tea. "So, how are you doing with your life as a senior?"
"You know," he said, "I just want to actually be with someone because I hate being alone. I'm still haunted by the memory of my ex."
"Oh my."
"Anyway, why am I here again?"
"Ryan, I have placed a number of wagers on the football team this week. I need you to sacrifice your national championship defense just for this year."
He was confused. "Huh? Why?"
"Very few people have placed their money on the Magi going 0-7 to start the year. I need you to do this for me. Tank the first seven games of the season, then go back to your winning ways afterwards."
"But why does my team have to do that?"
"If I win this wager...a lot of money is going to come my way, and I will send it all to the university as part of its endowment. We're talking one billion more Canadian dollars, Ryan."
"But to throw away a winning record, and a perfect record, just for...that?"
"How about I sweeten the deal?" She moved in closer and placed a ring on Ryan's finger.
"This is...!"
"I don't want to see cute boys like you live all alone like that. I've got everything you want. And I'll make you my husband when we graduate."
Ryan's breathing was hitched as Sanae slowly took off her clothes.
"Now how about it?" she whispered.
"Okay, I'll do it," he said. "I've always wanted to make love to a woman as hot as you."
"Let's go upstairs."

The next day, a cautiously upbeat Ryan Sampson went over to the players at their informal team meeting.
"So, why are you in quite the mood today man?" asked Rickey Lee, one of the wide receivers.
"Guys, we're gonna have to do something that has never been done at this university," Ryan said.
"What is it?" they all asked.
"We have to tank the first seven games to get more money to come into the university."
"What?" asked halfback Hunter Lester. "You're crazy! Why would we do that?"
"It's gonna be a one-time thing, just for this season. After the first seven games are over, we just beat the living shit out of everyone else. If we don't do this, the board is going to make a motion to drop the football program."
"Are you serious? That's crazy!"
"Besides," Ryan went on, "don't you guys want to get acquainted with a tough season for once? It's all for the best..."
They looked at each other, shrugged their shoulders, then nodded. "All right, we'll do it," they all said.
He pumped his fist and looked up. "Just as planned, my soon-to-be wife!"
