Last night, the Mitakihara community gathered at Hakurei Centre to remember the deceased who donned the colors of Mitakihara University in the first annual Felix Vera ceremony. A Roll Call of the Deceased was held inside the main arena, with the family of the deceased saying "here" and lighting a candle.
Speeches and eulogies were made, as well as a number of video tributes of notable Mitakihara students and alumni who have passed away. The highlights of the evening were the tributes to fallen Magi football quarterback Siri Illuminati and Magi basketball center Chuck Parker. Memorial scholarships in their name have been created.
Many students were moved to tears by the video tributes and speeches. One of the relatives of a student from India who was the victim of a hotel bombing could not even finish her speech and was completely disconsolate.
"Chuck, the Mitakihara family and your family will miss you and the future you could have had," said Parker's sister Fannie Mae Parker in her speech. "You meant so much to our lives, and I still have visions of the times you spent here on this campus, and with me, my mom, and all of our next of kin. We will never forget you, and I will never forget the best big brother I will ever have had.
"Smile down on us, as we gather here on this campus, for you have truly found happiness."
"This is the start of something wonderful and moving," said university founder, Dr. Madoka Kaname, who was in attendance as a member of the Board of Trustees. "When a Magi or Puella Magi dies, the Mitakihara Family gathers as one to remember him or her. We are very close, and hopefully, this will be an event that will represent the strength and solidarity everyone has for each other during these tough and troubled times—not just here, but all over the world."
