Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi begin the 2038 season with five straight games on the road, their first test coming up against the Indiana Hoosiers. Despite a strong performance defensively from the home side, the Magi kicked off the year with a comfortable 82-24 victory in Bloomington, Ind.

"We wanted to rotate some of the young players today to give them a taste of what to expect throughout their career as men of Mitakihara," said Coach Kaname after the match. "This is a very solid bunch of players that are donning the colors, and they did well, but there is room for improvement.

"Next week, we face Hawai'i on the road and this will be a great opportunity to mix in some other players who have yet to see playing time. We are known for our depth at every position, and our second string is fresh and ready to go."

Quarterback Leeroy Jenkins passes for 256 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 330 yards and three more majors. Halfback Tsuji Ikari ran for 35 yards and three scores, while fullback Ibn Battuta rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns.

Wide receiver Kenji Sugisaki caught six passes for 166 yards and a touchdown. Wideout Joe Massey led the blockers with 25 pancakes. On defense, middle linebacker Kazero Otonashi has 17 tackles and asack, while cornerback Nozomi Matsuyuki added 10 tackles and two intercepotions. Defensive tackle Ma Ling Lee led the pass rush with four sacks.

Mitakihara improve to 1-0 and will head on a plane tomorrow to take off for Honolulu, Hawaii ahead of their contest with the Hawai'i Warriors.
