Madoka trounce FIU, 135-24 but Kaname injured

Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi went back to work on a rainy Sunday against the Florida International Golden Panthers and won emphatically as usual, 135-24. However, their offensive captain, quarterback Akiyuki Kaname, was injured and had to be replaced by Dwayne Harris.

Kaname passed for 324 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 204 yards and two more scores.Halfback Rio Onjouji ran for 265 yards and three majors. Harris ran for 116 yards and three touchdowns and halfback Bryan Flowers rushed for 98 yards and two scores.

Leading the receivers was wide receiver John Brown, who caught six passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. Brown also led the blockers with 28 pancakes. Wideout ANdrew Blount caught three passes for 54 yards and two majors. Also catching a pass for a score were Onjouji, wideout Wendell Novak and wideout Ron Takakamo.

Middle linebacker Shaun Kirigaya led the defense with 27 tackles and three sacks. Defensive tackle Dax Hasegawa led the pass rush for the Magi with 10 tackles and 6.5 sacks. Freshman right end Taylor Luke made the most of his first start as a Magi, making seven tackles and three sacks.

Madoka improve to 1-0 and begin their road trip next week against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
