Magi qualify for BCS title game with 150-48 win over Notre Dame

Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi will be playing in the BCS National Championship Game once again after a 150-48 dismantling of the Notre Dame FIghting Irish at Mitakihara Stadium on Magia Day 2035. Quarterback Akiyuki Kaname had a horrendous day throwing the football, passing for 435 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. However, he made up for it with his feet, rushing for 223 yards and six majors.

Halfback John McDonald ran for 293 yards and five touchdowns while fellow halfback John Little rushed for 202 yards and five more majors. Fullback Gale Miketsukami ran for 126 yards and a score. Also scoring a touchdown on the ground were halfback Victor Scott and tight end Juan Valdez.

Wide receiver Gene Payne led the receiving game for Madoka, making seven catches for 178 yards and a touchdown. Wideout Andrew Blount added 106 receiving yards. Senior left tackle Jamil Grant led the blockers with 29 pancakes. Wide receiver John Brown and left guard Joseph Davis added 28 pancake blocks each.

Right outside linebacker Marcus Ransom, a fifth-year senior, led the Morning Rescue defense with 15 tackles and four sacks. Defensive tackle Dax Hasegawa added 11 tackles and 4.5 sacks, free safety Mickey Tsuruta added 14 tackles and an interception, strong safety Jojo Oohoshi had 13 tackles and cornerback Tony Parker added two picks.

Despite just earning 12 tackles and a sack, all signs point to junior middle linebacker Shaun Kirigaya winning a third straight Chuck Bednarik Award and a third straight Dick Butkus Award.

"Great way for our seniors to finish off their playing career here," said Coach Kaname after the game. "We now get some time to rest and train for our final game of the season, the BCS National Championship Game. Our scouts will be ready to take a look at a number of potential opponents for the next few weeks."

Mitakihara improve to 12-0 on the season.
