In a surprise announcement, the Mitakihara University football program will join the Mountain West Conference in the 2041-42 college sports season. This comes as a surprise announcement to many students who were happy with the football program's independent status.

"If all goes well, we will win five straight BCS crowns, boosting out total to 29," said Louis Forsythe, a sophomore biochem major from Red Deer, Alberta. "But when we join the Mountain West, the talent level drops. We won't be facing big-name opponents all that often and our chances of qualifying for the BCS crown are limited."

"I don't think we will ever get Number 30 if we win out our remaining games as an independent," said Hester Shay, a junior music major from Ojai, California and a member of the Mitakihara Marching Ultimates. Shay plays tuba. "We're going to be stuck at 29 for a very long time, and this will be a big victory for the major conferences out there."

"I want us to leave Princeton in the dust," said Stan Lee Mann, a freshman nursing major from Etobicoke, Ontario. "With this move, we are going to just pip them, and that's it. So anti-climactic. This is a terrible decision by the athletic department."

But others feel that now, Mitakihara can get a chance to play in bowls other than the National Championship Game. News also came out that the Rose Bowl is ending its Pac-12 and Big Ten partnership in favor of Pac-12 vs. Mountain West in 2041. The Big Ten Champions will play in the Fiesta Bowl instead.

Senior quarterback Akiyuki Kaname was pleased by the decision made by the athletic department.

"It's nice to go to a bowl game other than the National Championship," said Kaname during conditioning at Hakurei Centre. "Of course, I won't get to witness that unless we have a bad year next year, but I'm sure that a few years down the road, other players are going to get their chance at enjoying other bowl games while donning our colors.

"That's just the way it goes, you know."
