North Texas give Mitakihara a scare but Magi prevail 118-78

Mitakihara Magi head coach Tatsuya Kaname could only shake his head after the Magi second string were tested by the North Texas Mean Green in their 118-78 victory at Mitakihara Stadium.
"North Texas are a pretty impressive team, to have given us quite a scare in this contest," Kaname said after the game. "I thought the second string was going to be able to flex its muscle against the Mean Green but they struggled defensively. However, Rogue (Shuey) made a few good plays on both sides of the ball. He's been improving in practice and really shined today.
"Our offense was solid, producing points and winning by a comfortable margin in a shootout. But our defense needs to stop giving up point left and right and our O-Line needs to do a better job of defending Downtown (Brian Brown)."
Quarterback Brian Brown passed for 432 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 213 yards and three more majors. Halfback Johnny Sims ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Wideout C.J. Walden caught three passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns.
Middle linebacker Mark Maxwell made 21 tackles and three sacks but it was strong safety Rogue Shuey that broke through with 14 tackles and three interceptions, two which were returned for touchdowns.
Mitakihara improve to 9-0 and host AIr Force next week.
