Three players have transferred out of the Mitakihara Magi football program citing a need for playing time. Left guard Josh Downing was one of the first to leave the program days after the Magi won their 24th national championship. He will be playing for Florida International. "Don't try and talk me out of this. I've made up my mind to transfer," an angry Downing told the coaching staff at a face-to-face meeting. Downing had to be restrained by campus police after he nearly came to blows with the coaches.

Right end Kevin Gray will be transferring to Ole Miss. "I want to play, period," Gray told the coaching staff. "I don't care where it is."

Also leaving the program is fullback Jason Thomas. "I think another system will be good me to show the scouts what I can do," Thomas said in his meeting. Thomas plans to transfer to Tulane.

"We are very disappointed by the decisions made by Josh, Kevin and Jason but we understand the decisions they chose to make," said head coach Akiyuki Kaname at a hastily-called press conference announcing the transfer requests. "However, we are formally kicking Josh off the team due to his conduct towards the coaching staff and are removing all of his records from the books.

"Players that decide to leave our university are expected to conduct themselves with class and dignity and not engage in altercations with employees of Mitakihara University.

"Ole Miss, Florida International and Tulane are three schools that I do not think will contend for the National Championship. As a result of the decisions of these three players, we are scheduling these three teams next season to force them to second-guess the choices they have made in their educational journey."
