Mitakihara Magi head football coach Tatsuya Kaname believes that next year, the Magi will finally go through some tough times.
Finally, he adds.
"I think we are going to finish the season off right, but afterwards, I have the feeling that things are finally going to be a little bit tougher for us," said Kaname after practice at Hakurei Centre.
"The players are aware that they want to be dealt with some adversity. The seniors won't have to go through this, I don't think, but next year, it's going to be a challenge. We got a new crop of players coming into the fold next year and I am sweating at their development. They may not even be committed to the university.
"I mean, I don't know if I want to continue coaching at this school or if I want to go elsewhere," Kaname said. "But the number one reason why I think it's going to be a challenge for the program next season onward is because the boosters and students are tired of winning. They want to now come down from the mountain and focus on the importance of learning from defeat.
"According to a survey that my grad assistant compiled, many students are actually tired of victory and are hungry for defeat. it's a sudden yet disturbing phenomenon all of a sudden.
"I'd like us to get maybe a 10-win season max and an invite to a different bowl. Based on what Madoka and Homura are telling me, the university is also thinking about rejoining a major conference in the future such as the Pac-12."
Tatsuya looked on, a face of grim optimism on his head. "We will be moving on to the next chapter of this program next year. Fasten your seatbelts, everyone."
