Mitakihara Magi head coach Tatsuya Kaname was glib when asked about his team's No. 3 ranking in the recent ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, the recent AP Poll and the recent BCS Rankings. The Magi are facing the San Diego State Aztecs as part of a two-game road trip that will see Madoka rack up the frequent flyer miles.

"This is a good position for us," said Coach Kaname at a press conference at the team hotel, the Hotel del Coronado in Coronado, Calif. "For starters, we are top five, which is good, and if the season were to end today, we are returning to Pasadena to play in the Rose Bowl, a bowl game that continues to hold a soft place in my heart.

"Our guys know that even if we win out our next four games—and yes, I include the conference title game—we can still end up third. The coaching staff is making sure the players focus their eyes on the prize: the national championship, and all the honors and prestige that goes with winning it.

"Winning national honors has been a way of life here for the past four decades. We have 80 men's team titles and 50 women's team titles in all sports, to go with 28 straight NACDA Director's Cups, making us the premier athletics program in North America. For us, the football team has played a huge part in the success of Mitakihara Athletics, and we are committed to continuing that tradition.

"Wearing the colors of this school is not an easy thing to do. When our men wear the Rose, Pink and White, they are carrying the weight of our university, our city, our province, and our country because we fly the flag for Canada, one of the finest nations on this earth. It is a massive weight, but our team has carried it well for many years.

"From B.C. to Newfoundland, everyone in Canada supports the Magi and its dedication to providing a unique experience for our student-athletes. Founded by the wishes of my sister and blessed by the goodwill of our community, we are ready to begin the final push towards another perfect season.

"And all of Canada will be watching."
