Haruyuki Arita and the starters on Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi football team took the week off, allowing the second string to earn some valuable playing time. However, the pass defense of the Bulldogs had one of its finest days, picking off four of quarterback Reggie Miller's passes.

Miller still passed for 256 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 424 yards and seven more scores in the Magi's 111-28 victory over the Fresno State Bulldogs at Mitakihara Stadium in Mitakihara Town, B.C., but Coach Kaname was still wondering why Haru's backup passed so poorly.

"At any other school, or on any other team, especially at the pro level, four interceptions will get you pulled from a game," Coach Kaname said after the match. "The only reason why I allowed Reggie to finish the game is because his mobility outweighs his poor passing. I still don't understand why he was so off today with his throws, but that is why Haru is our starter and not him.

"Reggie might still win Player of the Week honors, but only for his rushing. His performance was average, by my standards."

Halfback Chauncey Wilson ran for 199 yards and two touchdowns and halfback Marques Murray added 145 yards and two more scores on the groun. Murray also led the receivers with five catches for 86 yards and a major. Wide receiver Reggie McFadden led the blockers with 22 pancakes.

Defensively, senior middle linebacker Luis Thomas had 20 tackles but it was a couple of freshmen that stole the show. Left end Ryan Hodge had 14 tackles and five sacks while left outside linebacker Josh Fine added 12 tackles and four sacks.

Madoka improve to 9-0 and will open up November with a couple of road games, starting next week against San Diego State.
