The old spread option playbook from the dustbins of history was brought out on trial as Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi routed the Army Black Knights, 129-36, at Mitakihara Stadium in Mitakihara Town, B.C. Quarterback Haruyuki Arita passed for 393 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 319 yards and nine more scores.

"We decided to give our fans a treat this week: a blast from the past in the form of the old spread option playbook," said Coach Kaname after the match. "I think the fans appreciated the decades of history of this game, and the way football offenses evolved. This was a one-off thing, and we will go back to our new system in two weeks."

Halfback Fred Jackson ran for 166 yards and two touchdowns while halfback Marques Murray ran for 104 yards and two more scores. Wide receiver Takumu Mayuzumi led the receivers with 152 yards and two majors. He and fellow wideout Reggie McFadden led the blockers with 12 pancakes each.

Strong safety Vince Wolfe led the defense with 18 tackles, while cornerback Tony Hubbard had four interceptions. Middle linebacker Jeff Nakazawa added 13 tackles.

Madoka improve to 4-0 and will take the week off before hitting the road in two weeks against the Boise State Broncos.
