Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi will be heading off to Pasadena, California...not for the BCS National Championship Game...but the Rose Bowl Game, ending a long streak of BCS National Championship appearances dating back to the 2032 season. Their opponent: the tenants of the stadium, the UCLA Bruins, champions of the Pac-12.

The news was met with relief and joy amongst the many students who feared that they would be defending their Four Corners. This year, those Four Corners, the four national championship trophies that go to the best team in college football, will be going to either Texas A&M or East Carolina.

"We are excited to represent the Mountain West Conference in this, the 'Granddaddy of Them All,'" said Coach Kaname via teleconference call in Mitakihara, B.C. "This game is turning 150 years old in a few years, so we are more than happy to finally take part in a postseason game other than the national championship.

"The players are ready, the fans are ready, the alumni and administration are ready...we're all ready to win the Rose Bowl for Canada."

Others were not pleased when they found out that the weakened scheduled prevented the Magi from breaking into the top two.

"Believe it or not, the intention was to play in the Rose Bowl all along," said Dan Burnside of the Toronto Star in a recent column. "No effort to want to defend your hardware. Talk about a fix."

"The greatest self-imposed travesty in all of sports," said Art Blake of the Province. "Key word: self-imposed. That means: Mitakihara chose to start up controversy by going with a ridiculously easy schedule. A powerful key word nonetheless."

"UCLA had better be ready," said Esteban Martinez of the Globe and Mail. "The Magi are going to come into New Year's Day feeling like they were screwed by the polls, when in reality, they expected this all along. Just play your part and get run over, Bruins, cause there's trouble a-Bruin!"
