Gir's Weekly Column: Volume 19

Happy Conference Championship Week to you all, members of the Mitakihara Family! I am Gir Todafunk with another Weekly Column for the Daily Magi and the Magi Football Blog. So here we are: another conference championship game and the de facto final home game for the seniors on this team. To Haruyuki, Takumu, Trey, Jeff, all you wonderful seniors...I salute what you've done, you've been great leaders and mentors, and I wish you all the best. But first, we have business to take care of.

Colorado State have been an opponent that we've had to put up with in a few conference championship games prior. But we know that they are a team we can use as a warmup for the big game in January: the BCS Championship Game. It's one of those delicate "win and you're in" scenarios.

Even if we lose this game, we're going to be in a bowl game, but it's not going to be a January bowl. So it's important that we finish the job. The Madoka coaching staff, apparently, is sending scouts to Pasadena to check on the Pac-12 championship game between UCLA and Washington. Apparently, if UCLA win, we win and Miami lose, they're going to be in the BCS title game ahead of Notre Dame.

The last time we faced UCLA, if you recall, was in the Rose Bowl Game a few years ago, so this would be deja blue all over again. Deja Blue and Gold. A battle of two solid athletic programs? Sure, why not. But we really want to face Notre Dame for all the marbles because they are Notre Dame, and they were unfortunate to have two losses this season.

I'm seeing signs all over campus saying, "Can the Rams!", "Madoka to Win!", "It's Time!", "#Swag", "Haru for Premier!" and "#Takumu!" among some of the more interesting signs on campus. Everybody in Canada is geared up and ready to watch the best college football team in all of college football get out there and deliver. As usual.

We've spent all week taking a look at Colorado State's recent victories and coming up with a plan to neutralize their passing attack. If we can do that, we're going to be in the driver's seat and we should be able to punch out ticket. But we're going to keep our eyes peeled for results from the other conference championship games, because we know how important that is in the big picture.

In short, we can only control what we can control. And with that, I hope to see all of you at the Stadium tomorrow, when we get set to crush Colorado State and win another Mountain West championship. We're defending our Four Corners, Miami, Notre Dame and UCLA, and if you want it, come and get it. This is Gir Todafunk, signing off until Wednesday, with a special edition of my Weekly Columns. You are not alone...
