Gir's Weekly Column: Volume 62

Happy early Madoka Day, readers on the Daily Magi and Magi Football Blog. I am, as always, Gir Todafunk with another weekly column for you readers to peruse, and then roll your eyes over. All I did last week—in more hospitable climes, mind—was make a few tackles and return the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown. That's pretty much it. It was a more silent beatdown, a euthanization of Colorado State.

I really think we're going to have it tough getting a number of these recruits to sign. They know that they have options, and I don't think we're going to get the ones we really want this time around. I hear that we may be seeing a few people sign their names, but I can't confirm nor deny. I do expect us to be locked out of contention for a few recruits by the end of the week. Dems da breaks.

I wanted to talk about Nathan Sims's wife, Ryuuko Matoi. She is a tough-as-nails badass that is a kinesiology major. Often times she has to keep Nyaruko's feet on the ground because he's the bubbly one, and she's the badass. Complete role reversal. Ryuuko is a third-year student and she had a rough childhood, because of her father, who died when she was young, according to what I know. She liberated her high school in her hometown, Honnouji, and sent the whole of Japan into raptures. After she did that, she enrolled here and met Nyaruko at our first training camp.

They've been together since. Sometimes she wears her old living school uniform, which she calls Senketsu, but mainly it's for show, and not for battle or anything crazy like that. It's turned into essentially cosplay material. But when she does wear her old digs, everyone at the university notices and they want to take photos with her. Nyaruko and Ryuuko are generally seen with each other and Ryuuko is a fan of Nyaruko's "nothing but business" approach to playing football.

Ryuuko is not one to rush into starting a family. But as time passes, she realizes that there is more to life than just being a fighter and delivering justice to the oppressed. Still, the experiences she had in Japan and the confidence she gained have helped her make the Dean's list since her first session. She wants to have kids, but she doesn't want them to have the type of childhood she had. She believes it can happen, and she knows it. That's Ryuuko in a nutshell.

Next week, the boys return to action against Utah State, and I may be talking about a few new people that will join us next season. Stay tuned to find out. I'm Gir, Mr. Wonderful, signing off. You are not alone.
