Hinoi, Madoka bury Minnesota, 105-23

Quarterback D.W. Hinoi passed for 291 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 393 yards and seven more scores as Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi rolled past the Minnesota Golden Gophers, 105-23, at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. Halfback Michael Wilkerson ran for 181 yards and three touchdowns and backup halfback Chaz Thomas ran for 108 yards and another major.

Wide receiver Kevin Cronin led the receivers with seven catches for 78 yards, while Thomas, wideout Matt Lewis and wideout Jeff Scott added a touchdown reception. Cronin led the blockers with 26 pancakes, while Scott added 11 pancakes, allowing just one sack.

Defensively, middle linebacker Roman Evans led the was with 15 tackles. Cornerback Gir Todafunk added 13 tackles and an interception, while cornerback Bryan Malone added 12 tackles and a pick. Overall, Coach Kaname was impressed by what he saw after the game.

"Today we took on a valiant opponent in their own house and we took the game to them," Coach Kaname said after the game. "For me, I look back at this performance and say that this was a testament to the character and commitment of this team to keep running our system and show patience offensively. We look to close out our opening road trip in style next week."

Mitakihara improve to 2-0 and travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to face the Bew Mexico Lobos next week.
