After Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi defeated the Colorado State Rams, 185-70 to win the Mountain West Conference Championship Game at Mitakihara Stadium in Mitakihara Town, B.C., a major question had to be answered regarding the Heisman Trophy: who will it go to?

Do the voters stick to tradition and bring in DeMarcus Washington, who ran for only 66 yards but scored five touchdowns to anchor a solid rushing attack? Of do they elect to break with tradition and give the trophy to cornerback Gir Todafunk, who put on another solid display with five tackles, 15 pass deflections and six interceptions, one which was returned 84 yards for a touchdown? Whatever the decision, neither Washington nor Todafunk cared.

"I'm just glad that we're conference champions once again," Washington said after the gane. "You know, it's been a long time coming for us this season. We know we can go unbeated once again and play our style of high-scoring football and we hope to do it again in Glendale in January."

"It's an awesome feeling to be on top of the Mountain West but our job's not done yet," Todafunk said after the game. "We need to close it out and win one more game. I don't care about the Heisman. I'm all for defending our Four Corners."

Quarterback Dylan Maxwell passed for 856 yards and eight touchdowns, halfback Michael Wilkerson ran for 206 yards and two scores, backup quarterback Sam Tremblay ran for 102 yards and two majors, wide receiver Jeff Scott caught 13 passes for 458 yards and five touchdowns and wideout Matt Lewis had four receptions for 210 yards and two majors.

Right tackle Jermaine Robers led the blockers with 17 pancakes while left tackle Evan Lightfoot added 14 and center Ryan Hudson added 11. Strpong safety Nick Malceski paced the defense with 11 tackles and an interception. On special teams, halfback Chaz Thomas returned five kickoffs for 339 yards and three touchdowns.

Mitakihara improve to 13-0 and will play in the BCS Championship Game, most likely against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
