Mitakihara shut Colorado State down, 70-0 to win Mountain West

In Haruyuki Arita's final home game as the starting quarterback for Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi, The Pig passed for 242 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another score as the Magi shut out the Colorado State Rams, 70-0, in the 2053 Mountain West Conference Championship Game at Mitakihara Stadium in Mitakihara Town, B.C. With the win, the Magi improve to 13-0 and qualify for the 2054 BCS Championship Game.

Backup quarterback D.W. Hinoi passed for 89 yards and a score and also added two more touchdowns on the ground. Fullback Hearst Helmsley and halfback DeMarcus Washington also scored a rushing touchdown in the shutout victory. Wide receiver Takumu Mayuzumi caught three passes for 109 yards and a touchdown, wideout Matt Lewis caught three passes for 39 yards and a score and wideout Trey Lester added two catches for 47 yards and a pair of majors.

Center Ryan Hudson led the blockers with seven pancakes, while left guard Rick Olson added five. Defensively, cornerback Nathan Sims led the way with four tackles and an intercepption. Left outside linebacker Josh Fine added three tackles and two sacks. Five other players on defense had a sack each.

"We like getting these shutout wins because it's a great warmup for the big game in January," said Coach Kaname after the game. "Our team deserved to be conference champions tonight, but our job is not done yet. Now we have to win the BCS title game, and we look forward to finding out who our opponent will be."

A pep rally at Hakurei Centre will take place tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. PT. All are invited to attend. The rally will feature the annoucement of the 2053 Bowl Championship Series pairings, as well as some speeches from Coach Kaname, Haruyuki Arita, Takumu Mayuzumi and Jeff Nakazawa. The event is free, and all attendees get a free commemorative polo and pin, courtesy of the Roseluck Arrow Boosters and Men About Town.
