Mitakihara Magi head coach Tatsuya Kaname signed to a new contract extension which keeps him around until at least the 2063 season, according to athletic director Mami Tomoe via videoconference today. The contract is worth $6.1 million CAN over a period of five years.

"Our hopes lie in having a sound coach to steer this ship a few more years," Tomoe said of the new deal. "But Tatsuya is more than just a sound coach. He knows the game better than anyone at this level and he's mentored a lot of people to become great coaches themselves, including his son. So we're blessed to have him on board again and we look forward to some more great victories and achievements from the players.

In addition, offensive coordinator Raul Chaser was given a new three-year contract, which means he will be at Mitakihara through at least the 2061 season.

"I don't think they ever wanted me to go," said Coach Kaname via phone interview. "I think I get a great feeling whenenver I can change the lives of young men. I've been around this game long enough to know that I'm leaving a legacy and at the same time, I am far from finished. So I ready to help the team drive forward into the next few seasons because this team means so much to me and to the University."

The 2059 Mitakihara Magi Football Schedule is due to be released in May of this year.
