The 50th season of football for Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi got off to a flying start as they pounded the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 101-13, at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway, N.J. It was the dawn of the Ricky Cojuangco era for the Magi, as the dual-threat freshman QB passed for 212 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 301 yards and five more scores.

Freshman halfback Dan Roxas also made an impression with 161 yards and four majors, as did fellow freshman tailback Rajiv Singh with 10 carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Fullback Shabba Tshabalala ran for 100 yards flat, backup halfback Danny Russ Hanover earned another touchdown on the ground, Roxas caught four passes for 96 yards and a score and tight end Jonathan Newell caught three passes for 85 yards.

Wide receiver Tony Graham Bell led the blockers with seven pancakes. On defense, left outside linebacker Dralion Clowney had four sacks while right end Ronnie Andrews added three sacks. Five different players had an interception apiece, including middle linebacker Jules Macklemore, who returned an interception 23 yards for a touchdown.

Mitakihara improve to 1-0 on the season and open up their home slate next week against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Notre Dame is coached by former Magi offensive coordinator Raul Chaser.
