Mitakihara cruise past Alabama 83-28

Quarterback Dean Amakusa passed for 345 yards and two touchdowns and backup Justin Powers passed for 219 yards and three more scores as Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi kicked off the 2059 season with an 83-28 rout of the Alabama Crimson Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Amakusa ran for 91 yards and two majors, halfback Tukul Abdul Rahman ran for 157 yards and three touchdowns, wide receiver Marques Singleton caught 15 passes for 146 yards and three scores, wide receiver Jason Bower caught nine passes for 188 yards and a major, wideout David Culver Page caught five passes for 72 yards and a touchdown and wideout Tony Graham Bell caught four passes for 100 yards as the Magi debuted the run-and-shoot against Alabama's spread option attack imposed by Tide coach John Kyon Smith.

Graham Bell also led the blockers with 18 pancakes while Bower added 15. Cornerback Richie Love led the defense in tackles with 17, while free safety Aila Hatsuse and cornerback Josh Joyce added 12 tackles. Strong safety Nobuyuki Oomiya and cornerback James Reese had an interception each.

Mitakihara improve to 1-0 and continue their road trip next week against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
