It was a short turnaround, but Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi were able to get the job done and silence the Old Dominion Monarchs at the Sakura Bowl, 89-13, to book their spot in the 2063 BCS National Championship Game. The first team initially got the rest, but Coach Kaname elected to field their best team in the end, which surprised quite a lot of people, even the Old Dominion players.

Quarterback Ricky Cojuangco passed for 268 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 45 yards and three more scores. Halfback Billy Shaw ran for 180 yards and a touchdown, halfback Dan Roxas ran for 112 yards and a major and fullback Lance Williams ran for 55 yards and two scores. Wide receiver Jason Saka caught seven passes for 116 yards and a touchdown, Roxas caught four passes for 62 yards and two majors and wideout Johnny Muntari caught three passes for 52 yards and a score.

Left tackle Michael Aryee led the blockers with 14 pancakes while left guard Randall Bancey had 10 and both right guard Robert Havenaar and center Ron Nwankwo had nine. Right end Luke McKenzie led the defense with 13 tackles and five sacks while defensive tackle Xavier Mpong had six tackles and three sacks. Right outside linebacker Jon Murray, in his final home game in a Magi uniform, had six tackles and sack and an interception.

"Our players knew that they needed to put on an impression for their fans and they did just that," said Coach Kaname after the game. "We hope that Shabba [Tshabalala] gets healthy for the National Championship game because we're gonna need him. In the meantime, we're gonna go right ahead and ramp up our practices since that's all we can do until late December."

Mitakihara improve to 12-0.
