Freshman quarterback Haruki Takayama, making his debut for the Mitakihara Magi, made his Tennessee counterpart, preseason first team All-American Matt Hill, look like an overrated gunsliger with all hat and no cattle. Takayama passed for 151 yards and a touchdown but ran for 327 yards and five touchdowns as Tatsuya Kaname's Magi steamrolled the Tennessee Volunteers, 121-23, at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn.

Halfback Bruno Okuno ran for 289 yards and five scores while catching five passes for 73 yards, fullback Mike Gray ran for 101 yards and a touchdown and wide receiver Zac Chabangu caught two passes for 46 yards and a major. Wide receiver Dee Dee Sonoda, a freshman, led the team in blocking with 25 pancakes while Chabangu added 22.

Left outside linebacker Takuto Itsuka led the team in tackling with 14 tackles, six TFL and two sacks while middle linebacker Austin Novak added 12 tackles and three interceptions. Three other players on defense had an interception each, including freshman cornerback Tarzan Takagi and freshman defensive tackle Sean Yamashita.

Mitakihara improve to 1-0 and continue their road trip next week against Ohio State.
