Cool As You Like: Mitakihara outgun Notre Dame 202-83

Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi were in for a firefight against Raul Chaser's Notre Dame Fighting Irish, but they came out big winners, 202-83, at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Ind. Quarterback Haruki Takayama passed for 764 yards and 10 touchdowns while rushing for 215 yards and five more scores to lead Madoka. Backup quarterback Terry Miyanaga passed for 91 yards and a score while rushing for 241 yards and four majors.

On the ground, halfback Jansen Onjouji ran for 207 yards and two touchdowns, halfback Ryan Johnson ran for 72 yards and a score, fullback Mike Gray ran for 102 yards and a major and halfback Bruno Okuno rushed for 69 yards and another touchdown. Through the air, wide receiver Shane Balogun caught seven passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns, wide receiver Steve Takakamo caught three passes for 150 yaqrds and two majors, wide receiver Dee Dee Sonoda caught three passes for 194 yards and three scores and Okuno caught three passes for 104 yards and another touchdown.

Balogun led the Magi in blocking with 25 pancakes, wideout George Griffin had 20 and Sonoda had 12. Backup quarterback Richard Franz was Madoka's leading tackler with nine tackles. Cornerback Howard Skinner had eight tackles, two sacks and an interception and six other players on defense also had a pick each.

To add insult to injury to the Irish, the Magi return teams also did their share to add pain to the hosts. Halfback Clay Robinson was a horse on kick returns, returning four kickoffs for 177 yards and a touchdown. Strong safety Mike Frenzel and free safety Roy Egwuekwe also returned their interceptions for touchdowns with Frenzel's going 80 yards to the house.

Mitakihara improve to 4-0 and conclude their road trip next week against Illinois.
