Terry's big day out helps Madoka defeat Oklahoma, 73-43

After quarterback Haruki Takayama went down with an injury in the first quarter, Mitakihara Magi head football coach Tatsuya Kaname went to freshman backup Terry Miyanaga to keep the offense going. What resulted was a big day out for The Tornado. Miyanaga passed for 371 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another as the Magi defeated the Oklahoma Sooners, 73-43, at the Sakura Bowl.

Halfback Bruno Okuno ran for 179 yards and two touchdowns, fullback James Stanley ran for 50 yards and a score, halfback Jansen Onjouji ran for for another major, wide receiver Dee Dee Sonoda caught seven passes for 159 yards and a touchdown, wideout George Griffin caught five passes for 57 yards and a major and wideout Shane Balogun caught five passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns.

Left tackle Jasper Tanaka led the blockers with 11 pancakes, while Onjouji added six. Middle linebacker Danny Miyanaga led the defense with 11 tackles and two sacks, while strong safety Chris Niskanan had eight tackles. Cornerbacks Tarzan Takagi and Howard Skinner each had an interception.

"We wanted to through Terry into the fire because he proved himself in garbage time this season," said Coach Kaname after the game. "He waited all yet to finally showcase his playing ability and he proved to everyone why he was recruited by us. He's going to be the eventual successsor to Haruki and the other two junior quarterbacks we have here, so this playing experience is really valuable to him."

Mitakihara improve to 11-0 and conclude their regular season next week against the Missouri Tigers in Magia Day 2066, honoring the Class of 2067.
