Mitakihara outduel Minnesota, 83-33

Quarterback Terry Miyanaga passed for 180 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 287 yards and five more scores as Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi put the clamps down on the Minnesota Golden Gophers, 83-33, at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. Halfback Clay Robinson ran for 168 yards, fullback Joe Sato ran for 237 yards and a score and halfback Jonathan White Cross ran for 29 yards and two majors to lead the ground game for the Magi.

Wide receiver Shane Balogun caught three passes for 46 yards and a touchdown, tight end Flynn Sota caught four passes for 40 yards and wideout George Griffin caught two passes for 49 yards and a score. Wide receiver Steve Takakamo led the Magi in blocking with 31 pancakes.

On defense, middle linebacker Danny Miyanaga led the way with 19 tackles and a sack but it was right outside linebacker Sonny Miyanaga that had an even bigger day, with nine tackles and five sacks. Strong safety Shiroyuki Kaname added 17 tackles while free safety Haku Ichijou pitched in with 10 tackles and cornerback Brian Pitts added nine more tackles.

Mitakihara improve to 2-0 but will be going through a quick turnaround to travel to Austin, Tex. to face the Texas Longhorns on Monday, Sept. 3.
