Offensive extravaganza sees Madoka pummel Rutgers, 227-90

Quarterback Haruki Takayama passed for 700 yards flat and 13 touchdowns while rushing for 99 yards and two more scores as Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi steamrolled past the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 227-90, at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway, N.J. A solid balance of pass and run was instrumental in outdueling the Scarlet Knights, who saw their quarterback, James Dawson, pass for 1067 yards and nine touchdowns.

Halfback Jansen Onjouji ran for 239 yards and three touchdowns, backup quarterback Terry Miyanaga ran for 195 yards and three scores, fullback Ricky Akaminko ran for 139 yardds and a major and halfback Ryan Johnson ran for 64 yards and three touchdowns. On the receiving end, wide receiver Shane Balogun caught seven passes for 280 yards and four touchdowns, wideout Dee Dee Sonoda caught three passes for 132 yards and three scores, and wideout Steve Takakamo caught three passes for 1863 yards and three more majors.

Wide receiver George Griffin led the blockers with 13 pancakes while Balogun added 12. Cornerback Lea Eino led the defense with four interceptions while defensive tackle Dev Acura, a freshman, had nine tackles and three sacks. Left outside linebacker Terrell Ameobi had three sacks, cornerback Tarzan Takagi had a couple of picks and strong safety Bryan Brown led in tackling with 10 tackles. Eight other players on defense had an interception apiece.

Mitakihara improve to 3-0 and continue their road trip next week against the Texas Longhorns.
