Opare on showcase as Madoka whip UCLA, 103-12

Tatsuya Kaname's Mitakihara Magi were solid in their 103-12 victory over the UCLA Bruins at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. Quarterback Russ Opare struggled with his passing with 114 passing yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. However, the junior scrambler out of Hamilton, Ont. ran for 341 yards and five touchdowns to anchor a strong rushing attack from the Magi.

Halfback Joe Sato ran for 250 yards and two scores, halfback Dreew Childs rushed for 210 yarda and two more scores and fullback Ian McKinley ran for 123 yards and another major. Sato, tight end Flynn Sota and wide receiver Anthony Injera all caught passes for touchdowns. Wide receiver Will Atsu led the blockers with 30 pancakes while Sato and Childs each had eight.

Middle linebacker Ernest Macklin led the defense in tackles with 15, while left outside linebacker Joey Agyemang Badu and strong safety Shiroyuki Kaname each secured an interception. Agyemang Badu returned his pick 53 yards for a score, while defensive tackle and defensive captain Dev Acura secured the lone safety of the contest. Acura and left end Lex Hasegawa each had two sacks.

Mitakihara improve to 3-0 and have a big match next week in South Bend, Ind. against Notre Dame.
